Every Sunday at 1 o’clock at our Soho Club, our Personal Trainer Lisa Rose offers an hour-long class based on Janet Balaskas’ Active Birth Method. Author, birth educator and the founder of the Active Birth Movement, Janet Balaskas is perhaps known best for her advocacy of active birth, where a woman is free to move during labour rather than lying on their back like a "stranded beetle". Lisa, who is currently training with Active Birth, has developed her own class called Pilates/Birth Preparation. Lisa is passionate about empowering women by educating them, practising labour movements and encouraging women to be active birth givers rather than passive patients. This enables women to feel confident and positive about the life changing experience of birthing and becoming a parent.This class will teach how to:* Be in touch with your body and your intuition, accessing your innate ability to give birth* Overcome fear and trust the birth process* Actively work with your body and trust your instincts* Be more knowledgeable about female physiology, hormones and birth* Learn to let go, relax and let it happen.Pilates/Birth Preparation will also include:* How to have an Active Birth - teaching various movements and positions* Relaxation and breathing awareness, increasing the ability to focus inward* Positive visualisations and affirmations* How to use a birth pool in labour and water birth* Massage and pressure points for labour* Creating an optimal birth environment* Partner participation* Complementary therapies you can use in labourThis class is free for members and open to non-members for £10. Partners are more than welcome to join and learn how to assist the mums-to-be through labour. Booking is recommended either through Reception, the website or the iPhone App.
