Introduction

DD Palmer founded the modern form of Chiropractic over 100 years ago. He removed a fixation in his deaf janitor’s neck after which his hearing was restored. DD Palmer started the first Chiropractic College in America. The Chiropractic Act 1994 means that all chiropractors must be registered with the General Chiropractic Council. The General Council accredits courses, two of which are at university sites. There are approximately 1,800 registered practitioners.

What is it good for?

Most people tend to assume that chiropractic is merely for treating back pain. However through the treatment of neuro-musculoskeletal problems (put simply this means nerves, muscles, and joints), the scope of treatment is vastly extended to cover many other diseases.

What happens in a consultation?

A comprehensive history will be taken followed by a physical examination. A diagnosis will be made and treatment will follow. The treatment is aimed at removing interference to the neuro-musculoskeletal system by correcting spinal misalignment and dysfunction, with wide ranging beneficial effects for health and wellbeing.
